NRB’s like Ramraj Pandey, Naveen Sharma, Bibhuti Bikramaditya and Ramesh Yadav have shown the passion and conviction to come forward and collaborate with the state machinery and private groups in setting out the new agenda of bright and promising Bihar.

We have had few exemplary success in these collaborative effort and some of the projects have had profound impact. Be it a Global Scientific meet like scientific foresight or Multimedia Tourism project in Nalanda, Patna Rice or I am Bihar t-shirt project, Gauravshali Bihar book or flood relief effort, our friends and well wishers have always joined hands for all our projects. An encouraging aspect which comes out in all these efforts is that the common driving passion for one and all has been the interest of Bihar. So it’s not about what individuals get out of it, or who takes the credit for these efforts, as a team and well wishers everyone has come together.

"Education is solution to the many ills our society is facing today," Kumar said and added that this very fact motivated him to start the school. A strong supporter of making a law for booking parents who do not send their children to school, Kumar sometimes get frustrated when he finds a large number of parents ignoring his request to send their children to the school.

"Many of the slum dwellers think that education will not be of any help for the future of their children. Something must be done to change this perception else all the efforts made to spread education will come a cropper," he said. "I hope many would follow my steps which in turn will usher in a new dawn in the country," he said. Unable to move without the help of the wheel-chair, Kumar is serving society by other means as well.

He has made a group of 20 artists, seven of whom are physically challenged, which works for making people aware about the killer Aids disease and the group to date has traversed seven districts of Bihar spreading the message about the disease.

She has now taken up the herculean task of of spreading awareness about AIDS in the villages. Hailing from Balthi Rasoolpur village in Muzaffarpur district, about 70 km from Patna, she was chosen for the honour in 2006 for her pathbreaking move to take up vegetable cultivation and inspire hundreds of women to take it up as a means of livelihood.

Being a counsellor, Devi is busy spreading awareness about HIV/AIDS in villages.'I am doing it as voluntary work to make a difference' she said.'Till date the response is more than expected. People, mostly village women, show keen interest in learning about AIDS and its prevention measures. But the fact remains that there are deep-rooted myths and stigma attached to the disease,' she said.

Kamaleshwari Singh, a semi-literate farmer of Manikpur village in Barh block of Patna district, surprised everyone who came to know of his feat. Over seven years, this man has dug a 60-ft-by-60-ft pond that is 25 ft deep, all by himself, using only a trowel and a bucket. He had to use a trowel, he says, because he could not manage to lift a spade.

Manikpur village had no pond before Kamaleshwari decided to get one dug, thereby making a permanent source of water available to the residents of Manikpur.What makes Kamaleshwari’s achievement more significant is that his initial inspiration for the job and his continued determination to keep digging for seven years came from his frustration with what he calls “nasty village politics”. He was not a participant in village politics.

“I always wanted my village Manikpur to have a pond of its own. For years, when I was young, I tried to persuade villagers and even local politicians to help set up a pond in the village. But nobody paid attention to what I said. As I kept witnessing the people of my village finding it difficult to take proper baths and irrigate their farms close to their homes, something kept burning inside me as I was unable to do anything myself. I found myself getting falsely implicated in cases like violent crimes and even a murder in all those years. After losing my 26-year-old elder son, Siyaram, to gang war, I decided to forget all bitterness and start doing something constructive,” Kamaleshwari.
