The Action Continues...

Meet the CEO…

So finally the Bihar CM is now being branded as the new CEO for Bihar, in a news article in Telegraph the CM has got some sweet remarks about his style of functioning.

People are increasingly confident that Nitish can deliver. “If we look at him from a corporate standpoint, he is a great manager and our best bet in the current political scenario in the state,” Bihar Industries Association president K.P.S. Keshri says.

Japan to help in coming up with a varsity at Nalanda

The Bihar Government gave its approval for setting up an international university near the remains of the ancient Nalanda University after a nine-member Japanese and Indian delegation called on Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today.

The project, the Indo-Asian Institute of Learning, is part of President A P J AbdulKalam’s vision, first reported by The Indian Express, for prosperity of Bihar and aimed at reviving the glory of the Nalanda international university, which existed in Bihar earlier than 500 BC.

President Kalam called it ‘‘Renaissance-Nalanda International University’’ and Nitish Kumar has taken the idea seriously.

‘‘We are committed to the project. My government has given the consent and work is scheduled to start soon,’’ said Kumar after meeting the delegation.

Japan is taking the lead in the project and the Japanese Government has given its consent to fund the proposal substantially, the delegation said.

MoUs to tide over power crisis

In a significant step which could go a long way in tiding over the crisis in this power-strapped state, the Bihar government on Monday signed three memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with the Centre in the presence of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Union Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde and Union Power Secretary R V Shahi.
The first two MoUs were signed by the Union power ministry, Bihar government, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, National Thermal Power Corporation and the Bihar State Electricity Board for renovation and modernisation of Muzaffarpur and Barauni Thermal power stations. “The estimated cost to renovate and modernise Muzaffarpur and Barauni units is Rs 506 crore, which will be met by the Union Government under the Rashtriya Sam Vikas Yojna,” Mr Shinde said.

Even though the MoU for Muzaffarpur (Kanti) plant was signed in December, it ran into rough weather after it was found that the plant was mortgaged to the Life Insurance Corporation and could not be handed over to the NTPC.

Sunil Mittal, after holding a meeting with the Bihar Chief Minister at his official residence in Patna on Monday, expressed his desire to set up a fertilizer processing plant in Bihar."A special team of experts will soon be arriving in Patna to study the feasibility of the plan so we could take the necessary steps to set up the plant," Mittal said assuring money would not come in the way of his plan.
Speaking to reporters following his meeting with Nitish Kumar on Monday evening, Mittal said Bihar had immense possibility for developing industries and there was no reason why the state could not reach the same height that other developed states have achieved in last decade or so.The Chief Minister extended his invitation to the Mittal Group to come to Bihar and also invest in processing and exporting fruits like Muzaffarpur's Shahi Litchi, mangoes, bananas, and 'makhana'.
