National Law University for Bihar

The Bihar government would set up a National Law University to provide quality law education on the lines of Hyderabad, Banglore and other places. The state Cabinet approved a decision to this effect.Briefing mediapersons after the Cabinet meeting, state Cabinet Coordination Secretary Ashok Kumar Chouhan said Rs 1.63 crore had been set aside for the current fiscal to set up the university, to be known as ''Chanakya Rashtriya Vishwvidyalaya''. He said the university would commence work at the local A N Sinha Institute of Social Studies, but the government was identifiying a permanent location for it.

He said the government had proposed setting up the university at a sprawling nearly 15 acre land in Mithapur Mohalla of Patna. He said five-year course, three-year course and other courses would be conducted in the university.Mr Chouhan said a law had to be enacted for the establishment of the university, which would launch its first academic session from July-August this year. He said other details were being worked out, adding a quota would be fixed for students of Bihar for admisssion to the university. He said approval would be taken from the University Grants Commission (UGC) for establishing the National Law University, a task mandatory under the law of the land.

Nitish recently said that by 2015 Bihar would emerge as a "developed state" of the country. After attending the meeting of the State Planning Board, Nitish said the government was following the 10-point mission suggested by President APJ Abdul Kalam.

The chief minister said the planning board has been reorganised with former member of the Planning Commission N K Singh as its vice-chairman. The meeting discussed the next five-year plan and the board was asked to prepare a detailed report. The points to be included in the report would deal with the President's 10-point mission dealing with agriculture, education, human resources, revival of Nalanda International University, health services, flood protection, basic infrastructure, tourism and e-governance.

He seems to have taken the Branding exercise really seriously and has approved a proposal for buying new luxury cars for ministers and senior officials.

The government will purchase nearly 60 luxury cars for ministers, chief minister and their security personnel, official sources said. "It has been decided that we will purchase 26 Indigo cars and 26 Scorpios," said an official.Nearly half a dozen specially built, bulletproof Scorpios will be made ready for Nitish Kumar alone because of security threats. It was estimated that the cars would cost Rs 80-90 million to the exchequer.
